Green-Meldrim House Built in the 1850s, the Green-Meldrim House is best known for the fact that it served as General William Tecumseh Sherman's headquarters towards the end of the Civil War. The house remains a great example of Gothic Revival architecture. It is open to the public for touring Tuesdays, as well as Thursday through Saturday. The Owens-Thomas house, a Regency style home, was built between the years of 1816 and 1819. The house has had a layered past; it served as a boarding house during the 1820s, in 1825 Marquis de Lafayette was a guest, and today it is home to the Telfair Museum of Art. Located within three 19th centruy buildings on Calhoun Square, the Massie Heritage Center offers exhibits of a 19th-century classroom, Savannah's city plan, the Victorian era, architectural styles and much more. The Center allows for self-guided and guided tours. Group tours can be arranged in advance. The Center is open Monday through Friday from 9am to 4pm, except on holidays.
